Here is an interesting headline that was part of General John Gibbon’s obituary in a February 1896 Seattle P.I. newspaper. Best known for his time as a general in the Civil War, Gibbon also served in the Indian Wars of the 1870's and commanded the Department of the Columbia in the 1880's. It was during that time that he ordered troops to Seattle to help quell the “anti-Chinese agitation.”
